The World Braces For Retirement Crisis — TPM News

Many people will be forced to work well past the traditional retirement age of 65 — to 70 or even longer. Living standards will fall, and poverty rates will rise for the elderly in wealthy countries that built safety nets for seniors after World War II. In developing countries, people’s rising expectations will be frustrated if governments can’t afford retirement systems to replace the tradition of children caring for aging parents.

The problems are emerging as the generation born after World War II moves into retirement. Read More…

Let’s play 2! Slugger Joe still pitching joe

Yankee Clipper? How about a Yankees espresso sipper.

Arizona Beverages is limbering up to launch a new, caffeinated cold drink in a can — and is angling to score another hit by slapping Joe DiMaggio’s image on it.

This time, the iced-tea giant based in Woodbury, NY, has created a “lightly carbonated espresso drink” that will be called “Joltin’ Joe” in honor of the baseball legend.

Slated to hit stores next week across the Big Apple, the 15.5-ounce beverage will carry 80 milligrams of caffeine — more than twice the amount in Arizona’s most caffeinated variety of iced tea. At the same time, it will contain less than half the sugar.

“We’ve been seeing the trend in coffee increasing — it’s a natural energy drink,” said Arizona spokeswoman Jackie Harrigan.

In a twist, DiMaggio is pictured wearing a cap that says “USA” instead of a Yankees cap.

“We didn’t even ask” the Yankees for permission to use their logo, said Elizabeth Kanna, who heads up media and marketing for Joe DiMaggio LLC.

Joltin’ Joe will be rolled out nationwide by the middle of September. The venture is kicking off with coffee 13 years after his death, and 70 years after his 56-game hitting streak.

“We felt the Joe DiMaggio brand seamlessly extended into coffee and energy,” said Michelle Alfandari, who handles licensing for the Joe DiMaggio estate.

DiMaggio, the Hall of Famer who played from 1936 to 1951, will be remembered by younger fans as the TV pitchman for Mr. Coffee for roughly 15 years, beginning in 1973.

Joltin’ Joe inspires new AriZona Beverages drink

Thursday August 30, 2012 12:36 PM By Keiko Morris
AriZona Beverages’ new caffeinated drink featuring Joe DiMaggio.

The iconic image of sports hero Joe DiMaggio will join other legendary athletic figures who have inspired drinks created by Woodbury-based AriZona Beverages USA.

Joltin’ Joe’s drink: a lightly carbonated espresso.

“The Joltin’ Joe drink will evoke DiMaggio’s timeless legacy — not only his greatness on the field but the way he symbolized the potential greatness we all yearn to see in ourselves,” the company said in a news release.

Joltin’ Joe’s young face graces the front of the 16-ounce can, which also features other historical photos and headlines from his 56-game hitting streak in 1941. One feature was altered — his cap reads “USA” instead of the Yankees’ “NY” logo.

“He inspired America,” said Michelle Alfandari, a managing member of Joe DiMaggio Llc, which has the rights to license and market all intellectual property of Joe DiMaggio, including his name, nickname and image. “He brought a nation together. Every time he got up to hit, everyone wanted him to make a hit because he represented something bigger.”

The Joltin’ Joe drink is all natural and made with all espresso, the company said. It contains 80 milligrams of RebA, which the company describes as a natural sweetener derived from the stevia leaf, and has 50 calories per eight-ounce serving — or 100 calories per can. The drink will be in stores by mid-September.

The new drink will be added to AriZona Beverages’ athlete-inspired products, including the Arnold Palmer Half & Half (half tea and lemonade) and Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Bear lemonade lines.

The collaboration between AriZona Beverages, the maker of AriZona Iced Tea, and Joe DiMaggio Llc arose out of a meeting at a trade show. The partnership was a natural fit, said Elizabeth Kanna, a managing member of Joe DiMaggio Llc.

“There is perseverance and determination and a lot of the attributes of what makes up Joe DiMaggio in AriZona,” Kanna said.

Joe DiMaggio Pitching New Coffee Drink for AriZona
Ray Latif|August 30, 2012 11:44 am

AriZona is swinging for the fences with a new coffee drink bearing the name of legendary baseballer Joe DiMaggio. Joltin’ Joe is a lightly carbonated espresso beverage made with  80 mg of caffeine, and sweetened with Reb A stevia. The drink contains 100 calories per 16 oz. can, which is wrapped with a sepia-colored photo of DiMaggio as well as black and white images and newspaper headlines touting the outfielder’s storied career.

“We’ve had great success in the tea market, and Joltin’ Joe is our foray into the coffee category where we expect the same levels of success,” said Jackie Harrigan, the Global Communications Director for AriZona Beverages.

Interestingly, the new product does not feature any mention of the New York Yankees, the team that DiMaggio played for throughout his career. And instead of the famous black Yankees cap that DiMaggio wore in his 15 years with the team, DiMaggio wears a – presumably Photoshopped – “USA” cap in the imagery.

Joltin’ Joe will debut in the New York metro next month and roll out nationally throughout the year.

Here is AriZona’s press release about Joltin’ Joe:

The Joltin’ Joe drink will evoke DiMaggio’s timeless legacy – not only his greatness on the field but the way he symbolized the potential for greatness we all yearn to see in ourselves.

Joltin’ Joe is a light, all-natural drink that is perfect for a morning caffeine kick or late afternoon pick-me-up. Made with natural espresso coffee. Joltin’ Joe has a clean, smooth taste followed by a subtle, bubbly effect.

Joltin’ Joe contains 80mg of caffeine, RebA – a natural sweetener derived from the stevia leaf, and only 50 calories per 8-ounce serving. And, like all AriZona beverages, it contains no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

Joltin’ Joe is packaged in 16-ounce aluminum cans that feature Joe DiMaggio as well as historical photos and headlines from his 56-game hitting streak that captured the nation’s attention and imagination – a record unbroken to this day. Joe DiMaggio and AriZona Tea Perfect Coffee Mates!

Great news for  99 cent Big Can lovers.  AriZona ice tea fans now also have a coffee option. The beverage giant is teaming up with Joe DiMaggio LLC (his people) to produce Joltin’ Joe. The can will feature DiMaggio’s mug sporting a U.S.A. embroidered cap instead of the famed Yankees brand he is known for. As for the contents of the can, a ready to drink, lightly carbonated espresso flavor awaits your taste buds. Now the good news, it has 80 mg of caffeine, 50 calories per 8oz. It is sweetened with Reb A Stevia and just like all other AriZona drinks, it is all natural with no preservatives, colors or artificial flavors. Joltin’ Joe will be available in the New York metro area in mid-September and nationally throughout the year. I know AriZona wont disappoint so I will be anxiously waiting.
